The Department of Media Education and Media Centre is part of the Institute of Education at University of Education, Ludwigsburg. The University specialises in the education of teachers for elementary schools, grammar schools, secondary schools and special schools, as well as offering a Diploma in Educational Sciences. The Department of Media Education and Media Centre was established in 1997 and is one of the few university departments in Germany with a main focus on media education. The Department has also initiated an Interdisciplinary Centre for Media Education and Media Research at the university. A main focus of teaching and research is action-oriented practical media work, with a particular focus on children and young people living in difficult social circumstances.
